Orient Beach State Park Rally

A rally in opposition to the proposed closure of Orient Beach State Park will take place on Monday, March 1 at 11 a.m.

In an effort to close a $30 million shortfall, the state Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historical Preservation has recommended closing Orient Beach State Park. The next nearest state park is Wildwood in Wading River, more than 30 miles to the west.

Orient Beach State Park is one of the few public beaches on the North Fork, serves over 110,000 people annually, and is an engine for the local economy. Its closure will undoubtedly have an effect on North Fork tourism.
